Born in Macedonia, in northern part of Greece, Edessa in 1969, degree in Business Administration at University of Macedonia, MSc in Tourism Administration at Hellenic Open University Patras/Greece, Phd in Destination Management at UKLO / Ohrid.  Dr.Evangelos Kiriakou is an economist, and tourism expert. He heads the cultural tourism and the M.I.S. department of the “Waterfalls of Edessa” Municipal Enterprise (Municipality of Edessa), where he works in the field of alternative and interactive tourism and in the field of information systems.

He also teaches, alternative tourism and local development at the Greek National Education Center of Public Administration, in seminars and conferences in Sciences of Tourism.

As field research he joined a project to West Europe (Espana, Belgium, France), aimed to European heritage and eco-museums and also he joined a project to North-East Europe (Sweden, Denmark, Romania, Italy) aimed to Rural and Cultural Tourism. For eight years has worked on staff, as main site editor, for the official site of Edessa www.edessacity.gr, www.cherriesonline.gr.

Through this experience, he has traveled extensively to all the continents. He also participates as project manager in many destination travel videos, cd, 1 book and 8 guides documentaries, in Edessa, which have been internationally distributed. He has followed worldwide seminars and congresses in alternative tourism, e-tourism, eco-tourism, cultural tourism, mice tourism, local & sustainable development and public relations.

He is member of the quality network “STEPFOR+”, member of the Edessa-Pella County Tourism Committee and also member of action team for crossborder and international projects of Edessa Municipality. He has published many articles and he has participate to international conferences mainly dealing with alternative, interactive, cultural and MICE tourism.
